Wikipedia Book Sample

Ever wished you could hold your favorite Wikipedia articles in your hands as a physical book? Thanks to a collaboration between the Wikimedia Foundation and PediaPress, a German startup, this unique service has been available for years—and it’s now expanding to more languages.

Turn Wikipedia Content into Printed Books

PediaPress enables users to:

  • Compile custom books from Wikipedia articles
  • Organize content with tables of contents or category lists
  • Download as free PDFs or order professionally printed copies

Key Features of PediaPress Books

  • Dimensions: 8″ x 5.5″
  • Binding: Color cover with black & white interior
  • Pricing: Starts at $8.90 for 100 pages (plus shipping)

Recent Expansion and Availability

Originally launched in German, the service recently expanded to six additional languages. As of February 2009, English Wikipedia users can test the feature—though currently limited to logged-in accounts during this trial phase.

How to Access:

  1. Visit the book creation page
  2. Review the help guide for instructions

Behind the Partnership

While PediaPress handles printing and distribution, Wikimedia receives 10% of gross sales from each book. The agreement also includes developing open-source software to improve wiki content reuse across different media formats.

Sample Book: View a PDF example on Amphibious Aircraft to see the final product quality.

Note: The English Wikipedia rollout is gradual to ensure system stability. We’ll update when the feature becomes available to all users.
